About Larry Navey

As a professional counselor living and working during times that seem particularly troublesome for many, I hope that I could bring a voice of reason, understanding, and wisdom to my profession.  In addition, while I strive to live my life in a way that is congruent with my worldview, I invariably fail far too often at this endeavor.  It is often difficult to love others and I am often easily distracted from keeping my priorities in focus.  But it is my prayer that I become more genuine in my faith and that in my failures God may continue to demonstrate His grace and mercy so that others may see Him through my life and come to truly “know” Him in ways never before experienced.

I am a graduate of Columbia International University in Columbia, S.C. where I double majored in Psychology and Biblical Studies.  I also have a MA in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL.  I grew up in North Carolina but I now reside in Illinois.  My passion has been to fully and effectively integrate the truths of the Christian faith in the counseling process.  Logic tells me that if Christianity is true, then it must be fully integrated into every aspect of our lives.  Anything short of that would indicate that perhaps it (Christianity) is just another “club” religion possesing no genuine truth or power to transform anyone.  But over the last 12 years I have witnessed the power of the truth of Jesus transform many lives, including my own, in such a way that there is no other explanation.  I have said to my self many times, “only God could do that.”  That leads me to the reason for starting this blog.

To reiterate, we live in a time that is particularly troublesome.  Our society faces many issues today and as most would agree, we are not healthy.  In fact, we are afflicted with a myriad of problems.  Moreover, the prognosis is bleek.  It is my prayer that I would be able to engage in a healthy dialogue with those who not only agree with my ideas/thoughts, but also those who do not agree so that we could at least learn to communicate and resolve conflict without so much anger, hate, and personal attacks.  I plan to write about numerous topics over the coming weeks and months.  Some of those topics may be quite controversial.  At the very least, I hope some of you who read my writings are challenged to critically think about the issues.  We (the human race) must learn to resolve our conflicts.  It seems that everyone wants to talk and no one wants to listen.  We must learn to listen!  Further, it also seems that we can no longer disagree without personal attacks.  I find this quite disturbing.  We must be able to voice our opinions without personal attacks and without hate.  Is that (free speech) not the essence of freedom?  We must learn to engage in healthy debates again!  If not, we will not survive as a free nation.  My profession is people.  By the grace of God I have been blessed with wisdom as it pertains to understanding human nature and resolving conflict.  I hope to reach more people through this blog and maybe some lives will be changed, including mine.  And maybe we can learn that conflict is actually healthy and stimulates growth when hate is left at door.
